Bird Pest Control

Pest birds can pose a major threat in and around facilities where food is being prepared, processed or stored, and are of as much concern to food plant operators as rats, mice, bat or insect infestations. As an example, many food manufacturing plants have problems with birds entering through large open doors such as loading docks, after which they may start to roost or nest in rafters above food production or storage sites.

We can prevent bird pests from entering your premises or add protection and prevention measure so that they can not cause issues like droopings, feather distribution or the spread of disease, along with the eating of your food production.

When bird droppings then fall from overhead rafters, they can contaminate food produced or stored at your property. Bird droppings on the floor also can be transferred to the inside of the food factory by people and forklifts entering the food factory. Dried bird dropping particles also can enter HAVC systems, and contaminate surfaces, equipment and food in the food factory via this route.

Another problem is that bird droppings are acidic, eating through paint, roofing material, fabric and soft metals like aluminium. Once roofs start to leak, heavily contaminated rainwater may infiltrate to the inside of the building, creating severe unhygienic conditions in food preparation, processing, packaging and storage areas. Finally, bird feathers may clog finned coolers reducing their cooling capacity, and bird nests may block exhaust vents and chimneys increasing the risk of fire.

Bird droppings can spread disease, as they harbour over 40 types of parasites, and can internally host over 60 types of infectious diseases. Among the most common are psittacosis, histoplasmosis, encephalitis, listeriosis, vibriosis, salmonellosis, meningitis and candidiasis, toxoplasmosis, etc. Usually with bird droppings, also a problem with insect infestation (e.g., bird mites, flies, etc.) arises, and even rodents are attracted to bird nests
